Schloss Broich - Broich Castle

The earliest traces of the castle were excavated in the sixties of this century. In 883 a fort was built to protect the “Hellweg”, a mediaeval trade route, against the Vikings. In 1093 Burkhard of Broich built the middle-age castle. In 1200 it was modernised and got a circular wall. Different lords then lived in the castle.

In 1847 a merchant of Mülheim bought and renovated the castle. Since 1983 the city of Mülheim has been the owner of the building. Nowadays adult evening classes use the building. Many cultural events take place in its nice courtyard.
