Participating Schools: Gebze, Turkey

Süleyman Demirel Anatolian High School is located in Gebze, Kocaeli. Gebze is a district which our school is in, 30 kms from İstanbul, one of the most beautiful cities of the world.

Gebze has a dominant advantage of  transportation. Motorway, railway and seaway can be used for transportation.  For instance, our district is 20 kmhs to Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Besides this advantage, Gebze is an industry city.

Many of the population work in factories, but their incomes are not enough to live comfortably. Briefly, Gebze has good sides but unfortunately it also has bad sides such as air pollution, an overpopulation problem, poverty and a low level of education etc.

One of the most important points that should be focused on : Gebze is a cosmopolitan district in which a lot of people of different cultures live. As a result of this specialty, it is possible to see effects of different cultures in Gebze.

The school building is located in a central area but has a quiet environment for a good education. There are 4 floors , 26 classrooms, a computer room, a conference room, a Foreign Language Room and a library.

Totally, 725 students are educated in the school. 175 of our students are Anatolian high school students, who have gained the right to be educated in this school  by passing a special exam. There are a principal, two vice principals and 20 teachers.

This project is very beneficial for both sides. We open our window to the different worlds in the field of education and cultural life. We build a cultural and educational bridge between European and Turkish students. Moreover, we think that  they will understand the basic characteristics of the Turkish People  if European People start to know Turks.
