Family Activities

What do you do together as a family? Write what activities you do together.

We take a walk, watch TV, talk together, and sometimes play little games ...
Z., girl, Turkey

We've got long discussions, we've day trips to other cities, we travel a lot in our holidays and much more.
S., girl, Germany

We play cards, watch tv and eat dinner. Sometimes we help each other with making dinner. Sometimes we fight.
C., girl, Denmark

I do a lot of things with my family but I really like the family gatherings because we spend a really good time together doing lots of funny things like watching films or playing a game!!
E., girl, Spain

I and my family we very much  like to go to the cinema or go also shopping. But our favourite occupation is watching a movie and dancing.
M., boy, Poland

Meals Together

As a family, do you eat together - breakfast, lunch, dinner? On weekdays or only on Sundays? Is it important for you that you do this together?

My favourite repast is breakfast. But, unfortunately, we have breakfast together only Sundays. Because my father has to go to work and I and my sister have to go to school.
But it isn't so on Sunday breakfasts. When we get up, we go to the supermarket and do some shopping with my sister and father. During that, my mother prepares the breakfast. When we come home, we prepare the table together and have breakfast. So, I like Sunday breakfasts.
We have dinner together every evening. It is enjoyable. We have dinner and talk about our days. I love our meal talks ...
Z., girl, Turkey

We have dinner together. Only on weekdays because everybody goes out at the weekend. I think it's important to be together with the family at least once a day to talk about your day and what happened. And by the way my father is a good cook so I enjoy it every time =P.
S., girl, Germany

My family eat dinner together every day. The exceptions are days when I or my sister come late from school. A special day is Christmas Eve, when we together do dishes , decorate the table and eat supper, while on the sky will be the first star. I think that shared meals are very important in family life.
E., girl, Poland

Yes, we eat dinner together in the dinner room. we eat about 6 pm. We eat breakfast together at the weekend. and never eat lunch together.
M., boy, Denmark

My father works almost all day, so we can't have lunch or dinner with us (my mother, sister and I), but at weekends, except for breakfast, all our meals are together. And some Sundays, we go to the countryside to have lunch with my uncles, cousins ... These kind of meals, that all the family is together, are a lot of fun.
L., girl, Spain

I do not have the opportunity to have breakfast with my family because we all have different timetables. Dinner and lunch time is when we eat together and we talk about our things. I like eating with my family because there are not many moments when we can be together.
A., girl, Spain

Talking to Each Other

As a family, do you talk together a lot? What are the most important topics? And at what times during the day or the week do you find time to talk?

We talk together a lot. We usually talk about our lessons. They are our the most important topics. We generally find time to talk at the evenings or on Sundays. We mention our marks, how I develop my English/German etc. I like family dialogues.
Z., girl, Turkey

We talk about our day. Sometimes we also discuss current or historical topics. Often we also make fun of each other but no one takes that seriously.
S., girl, Germany

I usually eat with my mother (because my father is working still), and when we are in the car we talk about school, problems, exams, gossip things ... And on Saturdays and Sundays, we eat all together and we talk about our week.
J., girl, Spain

Encouragement and Rewards

Sometimes you are successful because you have made a big effort - for example, you get good results at school because you have worked hard, or you have been successful at sports because you trained a lot. In such cases, does your family praise you? Do you get a reward? Do your parents encourage you?

My parents praise me a lot if I have a good mark in the school. Then we go shopping together. My parents encourage me a lot; they don't want me to be bad in school.
S., girl, Germany

Yes, I get praise when I've got good marks. But - and thats a "golden rule"- never with material things. (Just sometimes.)
S., girl, Germany

There are not to many reasons to praise me really, but when if I study more and I have a good mark my parents will reward me with coming home late when I go to party or some clothes!
L., girl, Spain

At home my parents congratulate me when I get good marks. They always say "It is your duty", "you are building your future".
J., boy, Spain
