Sharing

Have you ever felt uneasy about uploading certain photos - of yourself or of others? If so, why?

Everyone can see that my name is S., that I´m a girl, and they see my profile picture, but not more and I think it's enough. I don't share a lot on Facebook. I use it to chat with friends but on my page are two photos which show also me and only my friends can see them.
S., girl, Germany

I have some information on my Facebook account like photos or personal information (age, friends, place where I live) that I share with my friends but not with strange people.
A., girl, Spain

Usually on Facebook the things I upload are there for all my Facebook friends to see. if I don't want everybody to see it then I send the person a private message with the attachment or I don't upload it at all.
S., girl, United Kingdom

Information about You

Do you know (in some detail) what information Facebook stores about you?

All the information that you give it. This includes everything you post and have ever posted, and your personal info, e.g. your birthday, age, name, e-mail, pictures and comments, I think, so basically anything you do on there or put up there.
K., girl, United Kingdom

Photos, birth date, friends, e-mail address, sometimes phone number. We may be surprised how much information about us is in the internet. But true is that the most of it we give.
E., girl, Poland

Facebook is a very dangerous web, it saves all the information you put on it, and if you want to delete your profile, you can't, you can only block it, and everything you have uploaded will be always be on the Internet.
F., girl, Spain

Facebook knows a lot about me but I´m really careful about what I post.
N., boy, Germany

Well, on my Facebook I only have my name, my birthday, my city and my school. Only my friends can see my photos and my comments. I think is dangerous when everybody can see your photos, so my Facebook is private.
A., girl, Spain

Parental Control

Do your parents have access to your Facebook account? If yes, do they discuss it with you or set rules?

My dad is one of my friends on Facebook so he can see what I put up and what I'm doing but I think he trusts me enough to be sensible and responsible for myself.
K., girl, United Kingdom

My parents can't log on to my account, but I'm friends with them. So they can see what I post and all my pictures. Me and my parents never talk about Facebook.
S., girl, Denmark

My parents haven't access to my Facebook account, but they talk with me about it.
A., girl, Germany

My parents have not access to my Facebook account, and they also have their own accounts on Facebook, but I think they shouldn't access the accounts of their children. I think everyone has to be careful about the things that they do on the internet, and some parents speak with their children about problems or abuse. But some children feel controlled by their parents and for me it is a problem.
M., boy, Spain

My parents haven’t access to my Facebook account because I think these things are totally private and I can control my relationships alone.

Have you ever uploaded photos or material about other people without asking them first?

Doubts about Photos

Have you ever felt uneasy about uploading certain photos - of yourself or of others? If so, why?

Yes. You don't know what people think about your photos.
E., girl, Denmark

I never post photos that me or my friends don't like, I do a selection and finally I just upload the best photos, but other people upload all the photos that they have taken with their camera so sometimes I have to ask them to delete them because I don't like what I look like.
A., girl, Spain

I always upload photos if the people who appear there are in agreement to upload it. If one person doesn't want to upload it, I don't upload that photo. If I am alone in a photo I have no problems to upload them whenever I appear well; if not, I don't upload it. I always think what people are my friends on Facebook and can see them and it is a good way to know what photos can be uploaded or not.
M., boy, Spain

Taboos

What kind of information or material would you never upload or mention on Facebook because you think it would be wrong?

Private information like my address or a mobile phone number. Those are things nobody should know from a social network like Facebook. And I will also never write down who of my friends is my cousin etc. because only I must know it and when another person wants to know it, he/she can ask me. I also I don´t know, if I would write down there when I have a love relationship. I think that is unnecessary information because after a while my friends would know when I´m in a love relationship. For this I don´t need the help from Facebook.
S., girl, Germany

I don't upload photos of my parents or the rest of my family, and friends that haven't got any account, and I don't upload my personal information because if the people want my phone number or something like that they can ask me for it personally.
C., girl, Spain

I will never spread false rumors about someone, because one of my friends had a bad experience with a rumor. People said that she was pregnant and she had a very bad time. Rumors can hurt people a lot.
A., girl, Spain

Any explicit photos, anything about my home life in detail, confidential things, where and what time I am going anywhere, my phone number, and my full address.
